How to analyse a trailer:

Watch a trailer and comment on the following:

1) USP: What are the unique selling points in the film? Is it the actors - previous of successful films? Is it the use of special effects? Is it the director or producer?

 

2) Explain the overall narrative shown in the trailer and link it to the genre and genre conventions

 

3) Comment on the use of effective and engaging mise en scene/ lighting - link these elements to the genre and how it attracts the audience

 

4) Comment on the use of effective and engaging Camera Shots - link these elements to the genre and how the mise-en-scene attracts the audience

 

5) Comment on the use of effective and engaging editing - link these elements to the genre and how the use of editing engages the audience



6) Comment on the use of effective and engaging sound - link these elements to the genre and how the use of sound attracts the audience

 

7) Link the trailer to theory - Propp (character types) and Todorov (narrative stages)

 

8) What codes are featured in the trailer? (technical, verbal, symbolic and enigma - puzzles/questions) how do the codes attract the audience?
